A Typical Session
In a typical OT session, your student will be picked up from class and taken to a designated area within the school (so as not to distract the other students and to give the student reassurance to preform the tasks without the stressors of too many on-lookers).
We do a combination of fine motor and sensory activities that may include table-top activities (craft projects, writing, dexterity, coordination, and visual motor or visual processing activities) and working on specific goals or the skills required for a goal in an IEP or similar.
We sometimes include a gross motor activity to "warm-up" the body or increase focus. This may include tossing a ball, walking with hands and feet, other strengthening activities, etc.
Sometimes we are working on motor skills, sometimes it is sensory-based activities, sometimes it is more specialized like oral motor activities, working with kids in wheelchairs, assistive technology, etc.
Everything we do in our sessions is individualized and specific to the needs that our students have in their educational environment.
A lot of what we do is inherently FUN! Kids usually like coming with us and doing the activities we bring. We are constantly trying new things and helping kids become stronger and better in everything they do so they can Live Life To The Fullest!
